Not satisfied with the service you’ve received?

If you feel you have been treated unfairly by a WorkSafeBC officer and you are not satisfied after making a complaint to the officer’s supervisor or manager, please follow these steps.

Step 1
Raise your issue or complaint to the WorkSafeBC Issue Resolution Office (IRO)

If you’re not satisfied that the Workers Compensation Act, the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, and the WorkSafeBC policies, practices, and procedures were applied fairly in your circumstances, the before contacting the Fair Practices Commissioner (FPC) you must raise your issue or complaint to WorkSafeBC’c Issue Resolution Office (IRO) (formely known as the Fair Practices Office).
Step 2
Consider the outcome of the IRO investigation. Did it resolve your concern?

IRO staff act independently of WorkSafeBC in resolving disputes and do not side with WorkSafeBC, its employees, the person making a complaint, or any other party. Usually they can resolve your issue or complaint. Be sure to provide the IRO with all of the information you have to support a specific complaint as the FPC review will rely only on that information, any information on file with WorkSafeBC, plus specific information included in you complaint.
Step 3
If the IRO has not resolved your concern, you may raise it with the Fair Practices Commissioner (FPC)

The FPC provides an independent review of complaints for worker, employers, and workers’ dependents. The FPC review is based on the information you provided to the IRO, information in file with WorkSafeBC, and anything included in the FPC complaint form. Be sure your complaint is complete and specific.

Note: Your complaint must have been reviewed by the Issue Resolution Office at WorkSafeBC before you submit it to the Fair Practices Commissioner.

Step 4
FPC Outcome

  • Recommend to WorkSafeBC how to resolve a complaint.
  • Recommend to WorkSafeBC how to address systemic problems with the fairness of WorkSafeBC’s practices as indicated by complaints.
  • Recommend to WorkSafeBC how to address the systemic problems with the fairness of the application of policies of the Board of Directors, or practices and procedures of WorkSafeBC.
  • Give you an explanation of the process if the FPC concludes you were not treated unfairly.
